This is a very early test of moving from concept art of a spaceport to a 3D environment. You’ll recognize the original concept art… and check out how cool it is to walk around it! Please note the fidelity of the environment and buildings is MUCH lower than what it will be in the actual game and a lot of the background city environment is missing.

The T3A Gladiator is the UEE Navy’s primary carrier-based bomber. Gladiator squadrons are typically divided by specialty: a carrier may have both a Gladiator torpedo squadron and a Gladiator dive bomber squadron. A back seat is occupied by a tail gunner who also acts as radio operator.
Though a heavy-hitting bomber, the Gladiator has proven easy to modify and thus has become commonplace in the civilian market. The bomb bay can easily be converted for light transport. Many pilots choose to replace the rear turret’s laser cannon with a tractor beam, making it an ideal craft for light salvage missions.

Next up is our main stretch goal: at $2.5 million we will add an additional flyable ship, the Anvil Gladiator, to the game. The Gladiator is the civilian variant of a powerful military bomber currently being used against the Vanduul on the frontiers of the galaxy. The Anvil’s pylons can support the heaviest grade antimatter torpedoes and it has a up to a pair of turrets for protection during bombing runs. In short, they’re a capital ship’s worst nightmare!
So 1 x Class 4 hardpoint only, or two? We’ll know when the model starts to come together, but I’m pushing for two, somehow

So we can walk around on platforms in first person?? Im just trying to get absolute confirmation since it sounds to good to be true
The pitch video shows the player walking around ships in third-person, I’m sure it would be easy to implement a first-person view.
Doing 3rd person in CE3 isn’t a big deal. Just a camera switch if there is a proper player avatar not just a headless dummy. The kickstarter teaser had some third person footage already. This doesn’t mean that 3rd person is on anyones feature list yet, so we might have to do a thread in the forums about it once they are back.
In case 3rd person won’t make it to the final game, i am quite sure there will be a mod for it done by the community, once the moders get access to the modkits.
It’s awesome how much it looks like the concept art. Alsmost like the concept are was a painting of the final 3D scene. Pretty impressive on both ends.
And it already looks like one could just grab the controller and start playing a finished game! One can only tell it’s an early WIP, because in the night sky there seem to be stars shining through the moon. Just a little slip.
Then again there might be electricity and people on that moon, just lighting up their homes. lol

Even this being just a quick alpha footage, I am loving visual style already. Props to your visual artists and level designers for this quick shot. They really do a great job on tansfering the pixelated visual style of WC into this century, with cutting edge graphics on a cutting egde engine.
I think picking CE3 as the games engine was a pretty good call and this footage gives everyone a good hint on what to expect, not just in space but also on ground.
Given that CE3 is open for modders already and with all the pledges we are likely to get some SC related modding tools as well, its going to be hard to just sit there and wait for the next to years for modders to get their hands on this game.
It will be interesting to hear and see how you guys are going make CE3 work with the idea of the open space in an interactive space environment, cause it just hasn’t really been done bevor in such a large scale. I hope the collaboration between you and the crytek guys is going to turn into as much of an impulse as the kickstarter campaign had on the playerbase of the generation X.

According to the KS comments thread (I think), the red ship is a graphics placeholder asset they got from somewhere else. It may not end up in the final game.
The “Red Ship” also shows up on the flight deck of the Bengal class Carrier in the “Squadron 42″ trailer. Maybe a placeholder for the Origin M50 Interceptor?
Just an idea and a request. Maybe give the Gladiator more than one weapon port on rear turret so it isn’t a choice of laser or tractor beam. Perhaps only be able to function one system at a time given energy drain. This gives rear gunner players a bit more to live for.
As the leader of a large TBM Avenger Torpedo squadron in IL-2, I can’t WAIT to fly this ship! I’ve always wanted a space sim with a direct analogue to both the TBM Avenger and the SBD Dauntless Dive Bomber and now it looks like that dream will become a reality! Thank you!
WW2 in space! Although I do wonder what it means to ‘dive bomb’ in space. Inertia bombs as opposed to torpedoes? But yes, this is the first mention I’ve heard of dive-bombing in a CR space game (unless you count Strike Commander). It’s good to see a shout out to the Avenger and the Dauntless – mentioning dive bomber and torpedo squadrons on the same carrier, it’s the first thing it made me think of too.
Can’t wait for this sim. It’s been way to long since we’ve had a great space sim. With it being a combination of Wing Commander and Privateer this is going to be awesome. Gonna be a long 2yrs, but as long as we keep getting the great looking game footage on the development it’ll keep me going. I just love the way you teased us in the spaceport video by taking us to Harry’s bar for a drink and just cut us off, that’s just not right, cruel oh so cruel…LOL. Maybe this suggestion can be cut and pasted fast enough to sell a few more add-on ships: any chance you could update the “Ships Dev Doc” to include stats on all the ships you’ve introduced thus far in your updates? Makes it easier to compare than paging about 10 screens of updates to consider all ships. Gravy: any of those new ships have pics yet? Blueprints? Concept Art? Evil gravy: link for each ship to go directly the digital add-on checkout with that ship preselected (if logged in already). Gravy icing on the gravy-cake: sure would be nice to have a shopping cart for add-ons, so you don’t have to make a separate transaction for Every. Single. Item.
I agree with Fanty and Mingo… a “shopping cart” would be much more convienent for add-on purchasers. Being forced to purchase each add-on seperately is inefficient.
