More Constellation Details

Constellation Paint-Overs

As we promised back in November, work on the RSI Constellation Mk3 is continuing! Today we’re sharing some of the detailed paint-overs of the internals, including the berths and hangar bay, as well as the very first detail images of the P52 snub fighter! As many of you know, the Constellation carries a small fighter in an internal bay which players can choose to launch and pilot.

Freelancer Renderings

To say we were blown away by the response to Friday’s MISC Freelancer update would be an understatement. We’re so excited that fans are already passionate about their ships and our work and your comments absolutely do impact the development process.

We would like to clear up a few misconceptions and provide a little more information on the subscription program. The video posted on Friday was an abbreviated version of a longer edit for subscribers that we haven’t shared yet as we won’t have a good solution for segmenting content until everyone from Kickstarter is integrated. Once that data is in we will have three areas of access -

  1. PUBLIC: for anyone, featuring an overview and teases of the game and the ability to back.
  2. BACKERS: the Comm-Link, forums, Spectrum Dispatch, Holo-Viewer, Engineering, Galactapedia and RSI Museum.
  3. SUBSCRIBERS: Jump Point, The Vault and a more involved and exclusive behind-the-scenes area.

One thing the abbreviated video didn’t do was make it clear that this is NOT the final Freelancer design. It came across as this is the final look. The session we filmed was a review session of the work in progress and went over Chris’ notes to Jim Martin, which included a lot of the things people have been talking about. That detail just didn’t make it into the shorter version. Going forward we’re going to make sure that even the teaser versions for non-subscribers make it clear that this sort of thing is still an early step in the development of any ship! There is normally weeks if not a couple of months that go on in the ship design and development process and many, many iterations as we have to think about the functionality and ergonomics as much as the look of any ship that is going into Star Citizen.

As we had shared a couple of early concepts with the community and let you vote on the direction you wanted to take it (which was NOT voting on the final look as that is impossible to do when you’re in 2D concept for the same reason car or plane concepts never match up 100% with the final article) we wanted to come back with multiple video updates for subscribers and backers on the process so everyone could see the amount of thought and love that goes into designing each ship.

We’re still figuring out a good way to get the subscriber content to the subscribers before the site becomes segmented and we owe everyone the first issue of Jump Point – that will be coming probably the following week (i.e. week of Dec 17th). We’ll try to get the longer version out to subscribers this coming week and perhaps share the longer version with everyone on Friday so they can see the kind of in-depth stuff we want to provide for “Development Subscribers”. Check back soon to learn how being a subscriber helps the game and all about the cool additional content the system is allowing us to create!

Great work!! Now, please keep the freelancer like in initial concept art, just for long range exploration and heavily mercatile!!!!

      • Avatar of Daran Kellis Daran Kellis says:

I don’t think that they ever said that they were changing its function

      • concept art != actual roles. How did you come to that conclusion?

        • Avatar of Tim Eriksen Tim Eriksen says:

I wonder how many actually understood the != thing. Turns out that learning a programming language helps me outside of the IDE as well.

But yeah, it is just a design and we don’t even know what part is cargo-hold and not. Let’s just wait and let them do what they do best: make the ultimate game.

          • Avatar of Quintuplin Quintuplin says:

It’s true, though. They’ve shown rather intricate interior renderings and blueprints showing where there is room and where there isn’t, and it seems that the current version of the Constellation is not very well suited for cargo at all. The primary cargo hold, located on top of the miniature hangar, is built such that the only way to bring large quantities of cargo in is through an auxiliary airlock: a very small one at that. The cargo hold flooring is covering the largest entry, preventing it from being particularly practical to use.
Also, the statement that the ship is designed for 3-4 crew is a bit odd, since it has weapons and room for up to six crewmembers simultaneously running portions of the ship. Add that to a surprisingly linear design (spaceship doesn’t need to be aerodynamic), and it looks rather unpractical despite the selling points being just the opposite.

But I’m jumping the gun here. I’m sure the design will be ironed out and it will be just as good as the hype. Comparing it to the Falcon and the Serenity leads to very high expectations.

            Sorry for the rant.

  1. Woohoo, very very nice renders ! Thank you for the hard work RSI :D

  4. The small fighter looks awsome!

  5. I really like the snub! it looks like a speedy little fighter a lot of thrusters on such a small ship nimble agile and hopefully packs a bit of a punch. Really like it.

Freelancer – I like it, needs a bit of tweaking not much too much. But I’ll digress there it’s been discussed exhaustively.

Are subscribes people who have monthly subscriptions? or am I misunderstanding something?

  6. Avatar of cber2360 cber2360 says:

Very exciting, must see if I can get some of my buds to fly with me. Awesome role playing possibilities.

  7. Avatar of LoE LoE says:

Glad to see the Constellation and its P52 fleshed out more, though I would eventually like to see some more initial concept art for the other pledge craft.

    • Avatar of Daran Kellis Daran Kellis says:

Unfortunately, as much as we all want it, CR said that he doesn’t want to release too many of the sketches, since so many of them might be completely different when they think about each one more.

Of course, some of it’s probably being held back for subscribers or something

    • Avatar of Danius Danius says:

Yeah I mean look at what happened last time they released the concept art. Everyone had a shit fit because they (god forbid) decided to change things!! How dare they change the slightest detail on concept art!! Oh the humanity!!

After what happened with the Freelancer, I would wait until all the designs are much more fleshed out so as to not incite the entitlement rage around here.

      • Avatar of BlindPatriot BlindPatriot says:

Well it shouldnt be much of a problem, when its Backers and Subscribers only. There will always be criticism, and people sharing their opinions on what they want stuff to look like, and thats exactly why CR posts the stuff in the first place. Hes not looking for sycophants.

  8. It would be cool if each content developers could tweet a screenshot of what he had done that day, doesn’t take any time and provides a nice stream of teasers for the junkies!

    • Avatar of Solaris_Fowl Solaris_Fowl says:

As things change a LOT and there would probably be a lot of things done, and then undone, before a final (or semi-final, or even in the right direction) product is fit for public view, this would probably be counter-productive and subject to a lot of scrutiny. Additionally, it would take more time than you would think to have something put up every day (let alone few days) and then assess the response from the public etc. There’s a reason why your boss doesn’t check on your work every few hours. It would be super annoying for you (or in this case, the developer), and would hinder productivity if you’re always concerned with your progress and whether what you’re working on looks good yet. Let’s face it – we’re a judgemental/scrutinizing community because we care about the end result. We don’t need to see every few steps they take, that’d be annoying for everyone, even us.

Well intentioned, but would probably be bad news.

      • It’s just a screenshot. That they tweet. Nothing more. Put a giant red PRE-ALPHA stamp all across it if you want. They don’t even have to read the feedback unless they want, that’s what the forums are for. It’s ridiculous that we can’t have stuff because someone might have an opinion of it.

Next people will demand we close down the entire site for 2 years, lest someone provide some premature negative feedback on some half-done render. :p

Great work guys, keep it up ;)
Man, I think I’m gonna play this game for years…

    • As graphics have gotten better, I find myself playing games that are 5 years old nowadays. I do believe this game will easily have a 10 year shelf life, tomb-stoned ultimately by the # of concurrent players that are online. As features are added, players who haven’t logged in for a couple months mind find themselves sucked back in. I don’t see this game as a resurgence for the PC, as much as the game to end all games.

Keep the updates coming, I may lurk more than I comment but you’ve all done a great job in making us (certainly me) feel involved in the development and building a great community!

  12. Avatar of Grayzzur Grayzzur says:

I think you should post this first longer video for all, as a teaser to show them what they’d get by subscribing. Don’t waste your efforts on a one-off to subscribers only before getting the site segmented properly. (I say that as someone who’s already a subscriber.)

  13. Avatar of WolvenX WolvenX says:

Thank you for the update ! Looking forward to Jumpoint. Pictures are great :)

We appreciate all that you do, especially taking in all our ideas. The reaction was a bit overwhelming lol Thanks for making us a part of SC development, but we are aware that you are actually developing the game and that you have the final say. There are obviously things we don’t know.

    All the best great work.

  14. Avatar of Kefka Kefka says:

Nice! Awesome to have that grade of detail just for interrior. And that is still concept-status! RSI, you amaze me!

Looking forward to get more details for subscribers!

  15. Avatar of Reach Reach says:

The cargo bay of the Constellation looks bigger than it did in the PDF, whether it is or not I don’t know but I know a few people said it doesn’t look big enough. The attention to detail is incredible though and can’t wait for the kickstarter pledges to be unified and the subscription stuff to kick off.

  16. Avatar of deadbody deadbody says:

  18. Avatar of Slasher Slasher says:

The Constellation internals look fantastic! keep up the good work. Will the loo and shower be usable? Will I be able to have a dirty protest in someone’s bunk?

Also Any word on 300i? as my pledge ship I obviously can’t wait to see some pics, ah crap, see I’ve just messed myself again thinking about it.

  19. Avatar of Moses Baxter Moses Baxter says:

Really, you shouldn’t prevent interested customers from getting decent information. Make the com-link, holoviewer, galactipedia (but maybe not the forums) open to the public. Don’t alienate potential customers.

Besides, it’s the internetz, witholding information rarely works. I really do think this a step in the wrong direction. Yes, you want cash, we’ve realized that by now… maybe name asteroids or whatnot after the subscribers, if that’s what turns them on to pay 20 bucks a month. Or add that cash to their funds to be spent later on ships and whatnot.
But this “exclusive information” will just leave a stale taste in the mouth of the others who ‘just’ pledged.

    • Avatar of Fenthik Fenthik says:

Well, i think it is the right way, instead of offering more in-game stuff, they give the Subscribers some “real” stuff.
As they already mentioned, Subscriber will not have any ingame bonus from beeing it. So what is left?
Exactly, only one thing. That is more behind-the-scene information!

This is stuff, which will be only produces for the subscribers, if there wouldn’t be subscriber, they would have not made this stuff.

So you got the whole subscribing thing wrong. It is not holding back informations, it is just sharing additional informations with subscriber.

    • Avatar of Lechuck Lechuck says:

first,i’m a subscriber…second:i hope that people that just pledged will get a very good amount of information from the development progress also…subscriber is a way to let the more passionate people allow to show their support, not to divide the community.

    • Avatar of Tutamun Tutamun says:

I’m thinking about subscribing for 10 USD / month. But I’m still hesitating. I could also get myself a constellation instead of a 2 years subscription. (Roughly the same amount…) I’m curious because of the exclusive information… but the constellation isn’t bad either. So if the subscription amount would be added to my funds every month then I’d immediately subscribe.

But this would be unfair for people who already have pledged (e.g. large amounts > 120 or 240 USD) but can’t get access to the exclusive content because they did not pay via subscription. To make it fair you also would have to grant the current pledgers access to the exclusive content for a certain amount of months equal to their pledge amount divided by 10.

That would be a mess… so basically you could just hand out the exclusive content to everyone. Subscription would only be a payment plan that allows us to spread out large amounts.

Now you got me thinking and I read through the subscription blog post under:
      http://www.robertsspaceindustries.com/unlock-caterpillar-new-items-and-subscriptions/

Over the past month we’ve had a lot of requests from users who simply want to support the game. Some can’t afford to spend $250 on a higher pledge tier right now but would like to help out every month for a small amount.

If someone wants to spend 250 USD then he probably wants the constellation. He won’t get it by paying 10 or 20 USD per month. So this is not the same. (Maybe this is just me… but I’d like to get as much worth out of my money as possible. ;) )

Yes, I know, there is different value in the subscription. But I don’t care about the ‘asking question’ or ‘visit CI’ part. For me the most interesting part is the digital magazine Jump Point, being able to see the full videos and maybe the name in the game after 12 months.

If just 10% of the community helps out in this manner, we would be able to afford 6 additional team members.

These are things that we’re confident we wouldn’t have done without the extra money and the time it allows us.

Okay, we are at about 100,000 pledgers. 10% would be 10,000. The average subscription price is 15 USD. For one year this would mean 10,000 * 15 = 150,000 USD. For tow years that would be 300,000 USD.
Basically you could also have set a new stretch goal of 7,300,000 USD to do those exclusives and share them with every pledger. And make everyone happy. Right?

    • Avatar of BlindPatriot BlindPatriot says:

This website was intended for backers only, since the beginning, he said so himself. Im sure as the game gets into the Alpha phase, and there is more to talk about, there will be a place for the average customer, with all of that content.

  20. Avatar of Cold Cold says:

Thanks so much for keeping us in touch with the actual development and giving us a bit of insight in the whole process behind this game. It really makes you feel being part of the development, so please continue that. It’s very welcome!

  21. Avatar of T.C.McQueen T.C.McQueen says:

The work you are doing and the level of detail that you always communicate to us is great. We always hunger for more but we know that good things take time. We want good things, not rushed things but if the backer community can help with anything we are always here. We enjoy the immersion even more now as we all watch our dreams become reality in the near future. I wonder what Devinci would think if he saw this level of collaboration. To design and dream with no fear of what other powers in this industry think or their influences. This plagued him his whole life. Freedom of design and collaboration is truly a gift.

    Poor Student (TM)

According to the freelance discussion: I highly recommend to you devs that you won’t listen to the community all the time, its also about your game, not just ours. Take the feedback seriously but still make your own stuff. :)

  25. Well this news put me at ease, much appreciated
I didnt get the connie,so I really didnt pay attention so far,but other than it looks like (just my opinion) your adding to much nick nack to interior, otherwise I say its looking real good

Love the color so far (fan of blue) the Constellation I can not wait to fly that baby ever since I seen the concept art I have want to fly her probably one of my Favorited ships so far (leaving myself open for new favorites :) )

as far as Freelancer I like the way it looks like a baby Firefly and can not wait to see where it goes from there.

I pledged for the two 300i and I am so anticipating the concept for that ship just to know what I have to look forward to (not messing myself like the other guy but I do need a tissue for all the drool)

  32. Avatar of Zeal Vurte Zeal Vurte says:

My comments before came from an understanding that it wasn’t the final design, and we didn’t vote for a final design (if only because tweaks clearly needed to be made for gameplay reasons), but seeing the “earlier model” and comparing it to the model you showed, indicated you were moving further and further away from the voted design, to the point it was beginning to look very little like it, and only really resemble it in terms of the spec and basic structure, no longer the aesthetics that set it apart.

What I saw no longer had any of the appeal the voted design did, so I felt I had to voice my criticisms in hope of any of it being taken on board. I still feel if it remains more like what was shown, and less like the concept art, then I no longer have interest in owning or piloting that ship, but my comments about wanting to remove my addon were not meant as a threat or ultimatum, just a practical expression my personal displeasure.

In contrast, I wasn’t a big fan of the Constellation as a whole, and I’m still not, but many parts of it look good and make it interesting, and as more details are added it’s looking even better.

  33. I really like the way the design underscores that players will be running around inside that ship. I can see people clocking their time from ‘lounging in the cockpit’ to ‘sprint into hangar jump into fighter and launch!’. Then do it a few more times to improve their time. Because it really might matter. And it’s nice to know for the primary pilot when one can expect it to launch… hmm. How would maneuvering affect people inside the ship who are not strapped down?

  34. Avatar of JacqSiir JacqSiir says:

Aaand exhale. I was getting a little worried that the design of the Freelancer was moving somewhat away from the concept we(I)’d chosen. Glad thats not necessarily the case!

  35. Avatar of Oroshi Oroshi says:

I love the detail, if your doing full internal space for the ships, don’t for get the Head, and personnel lockers

  36. Avatar of Boraxx Boraxx says:

So makes me wonder what and how you will provide info to the backers who pledged 1000 and over?

    • I was under the impression that no matter how much you backed, you get the same info as every other backer unless you subscribe.

      I miss something?

Honest question. I know it’s hard to tell over the internet, but that “I miss something?” was not intended to be sarcastic, or snide, or anything like that.

    • Avatar of Reach Reach says:

I think we need to wait for everything to kick off after the kickstarter stuff is integrated before talking about that. My presumption is that subscribers and pledgers would get the same game information and news, it’s just that subscribers get it first rather than wait for the website to be updated.

      • Avatar of Ronin Ronin says:

        Not exactly, Reach.

“The only thing left is telling our story: letting you follow the development of the game. But here’s the thing: we’re already doing that. It was part of the promise we made when you pledged for your copy of Star Citizen in the first place and, again, we aren’t going to change any of our plans because it might mean more money. If you’ve paid for the game, everything at the site is yours for the next two years: the Comm-Link, the Spectrum Dispatches, the RSI Museum, the forums and the live chat… as is everything we haven’t rolled out yet, but will: engineering updates about the game mechanics, “holovids” of the gameplay as it takes shape, access to the Alpha and Beta and much more.

Instead, we’ve created an extra set of rewards and ways to follow our development for interested subscribers, divided into two levels: Centurion ($10/month) and Imperator ($20/month.) These are things that we’re confident we wouldn’t have done without the extra money and the time it allows us. Here’s the rundown:

        * Jump Point, the monthly digital magazine of Star Citizen. A 4-6 page monthly newsletter which includes updates from the team and new in-universe Star Citizen fiction from the writing team.
        * Access to “The Vault,” a collection of Star Citizen artwork that would otherwise never be seen, including ‘paths not taken’ discarded concept art for the true collector.”

plus some other stuff which isn’t really -content-, like getting questions submitted and answered in the live “show and tell update” and being able to watch the update get recorded for pledgers.

Check out the Subscription update in this post:

  37. Avatar of Slazer Slazer says:

I’m wondering if there can be other snub-fighter for the Constellation. The internal hangar is quite big especially with that small cockpit in it it seams more like a waste of space. Or is there missing a lot of EVA equipment and ordonances (ammunition) [or differnt kind of working moduls like mining] for the snub fighter? :D

    • Personally I’m guessing that it it will at some point become possible to load other things in that hangar bay – robot miners, for example, or maybe a repair drone for bigger ships – and that a possible constellation modification would be to use the hangar bay area for something completely different. Deep space telemetry array, or more cargo space, or maybe a passenger cabin?

But hopefully want the basics to work first. And that rather cool looking snub fighter seems like a winner for the ‘factory spec’ loadout. Not so sure it will be wasted space if one wants to be able to do repair work on said snub fighter.

    • Avatar of Badgerpants Badgerpants says:

Also If I’m getting chased by cannibals can I just dump my crew out the airlock? and yeah I may get a reputation as a dump and runner, and yes it might get harder to hire crew in the future, but at least I won’t end up a meatsicle…www.meatsicle.com

I think doing that for all the ships will be awesome, you will also get some good critique from fans if they can see every part of the ship. Still pics of what you are doing with the stella are like crack to me so i am very happy. And i agree with some fore posters as to this game being easily a 10 year playable game for me, this game may just never end for me.

  50. The P52 looks amazing! I don’t have a ‘Stella, but I’d definitely consider renting out my skills as a wingman in one of those beauties. Can’t wait to see the 300i, or the M50!

  60. i wonder how the forums will work when subscribers talk about new stuff and backers have no clue whats going on.
i also wonder how long the stuff will be “for subsrcriber eyes only” on the internet.

  61. Looks like the snub fighters wings are designed to fold near te tips. I assume this is to solve the problem seen in the brochure where its wings would have hit the launch bay struts. Good move. Overall nice work on the rough interior sketches!

  62. Playing Mech Warrior Online atm, but my friends and I know when this goes live … or even Alpha that we will drop most of our other games and will be playing this.

Great work and can’t wait for more updates!

Thanks, looking forward to the other sections of the site.

Will you please provide some type of interlinking navigation to more easily find other related information rather than pour over the logs of information from before I started following so closely.

  64. Love the fighter. With the cockpit placed so far back, I have a great nickname for it.

That fighter is drop dead sexy, though it looks a little different than what I imagined when I read “snub fighter” (thought it would be “blockier”). Hope there are many more fighters to come!

  66. Avatar of Nightrider Nightrider says:

Well done the constellation design is coming along great.

The cockpit view of the constellation is very nice.
I like the detail of the center seat as it is hung from the ceiling.
Nice center gunners chair for the turret up front between the pilot & co pilot.

As others have said an airlock between cargo M52 area and living berths
    would be a good addition.

    • I want to pilot from that center seat, so I hope it slides forward along that beam that’s overhead to have a pristine, centered view of the combat area without getting the off-center seats in the way of the view. If the Hornet can tie the turret to the pilot’s view, then Constellation should have no problem doing that when I’m flying solo. Fantastic work, CIG!!

  67. Avatar of Kafelnikov Kafelnikov says:

Wow, that P52 is looking *really* sleek. Great work guys, can’t wait to see more!

  68. Avatar of Duke of Goa Duke of Goa says:

It looks just great, congratulations and keep up the superb work ! ;)

  69. Avatar of Nuessekloas Nuessekloas says:

nice renders an repainting done there, keep it up.

  70. Fighter looks good.
Constellation cargo bay is still not functional. Sad..

  71. Hmm couldn’t find any info on this (or just cant find it with google):

I really like the Constellation but i have already pledged for the Hornet. i cant and wont affort another $250 on the Constellation :/.

So will the Constellation only be avalibale through pledging or can we get it for ingame currency too?

  72. Avatar of Kazen Kazen says:

this looks great! i might chip in some more for this!!! pls stop all this crazy updates!!! lol

  73. Avatar of Greaser Greaser says:

Fine – but now I’m interested in artworks of the Origin 300i – the ship I pledge first for, before I grade up to the Freelancer – hoping that that was no failure :-)

  74. Avatar of orion orion says:

    Great work and community feeling.
The engine “wings” I always thought made sence as cooling radiators / heatsheelds / sensors. To that effect I would expect a gold finish for dissipating heat, a silver finish for heatsheelds or some more intracete finish with ribbes, antenna’s etc.
Bigger is better as far is i’m cencerned.

It would be very cool to give this ship “passive radar capabilities” with nano antenna arrays integrated in those wings.

As we learned from “matian successor nadeshico”, if you shutdown all your systems, there is no difference between your ship and an rock, while actively scanning makes you more like a flying lighthouse.

Maybe a engine / hull / sensor upgrade will allow those capabilaties / looks (wink wink) ;)

  75. Avatar of 76 76 says:

Maybe stop releasing art until finished… for obvious reason.

  76. Avatar of Ezrii Ezrii says:

Nice work guys ! the P52 looks really nice ! and i like the reminder of the old P51 !
The Constellation’s bridge looks nice too :)
but we miss a place were to find thoses pictures as i can’t find pictures of the exterior of the Constellation, i suppose they’re not awailable yet.

Well, i can’t wait to see what you guys will do for the Origin 300i :)

  77. Avatar of Angram Angram says:

    Awesome fighter. It looks great!

  78. Avatar of Rmarks1701 Rmarks1701 says:

looks like a nice ship to fly. I am hoping that we can leave the constellation on auto pilot and jump into the fighter to explore area’s/ things if we feel like it.

  79. Avatar of AytrusTekis AytrusTekis says:

I think providing the first development video in full to all backers as well as subscribers is a fantastic idea!

I personally am sitting on that fence about becoming a subscriber, if I got to see a full example of what I would be getting, it would go a long way toward me making that decision.

Its very possible it will throw me off that fence right away to subscribe. Its also possible that even if I dont make the leap right away, after a little while of not getting that benefit anymore, I might not be able to resist and just jump right in.

Either way, I think it will certainly help a ton of people make the choice whether or not finally to subscribe, if we could see what exactly a subscriber gets.

Other than that, great update! I see my Constellation is shaping up quite beautifully!

  80. Avatar of Stublerone Stublerone says:

Looks awesome – my beloved constellation- :)

Just one comment: Think about sizes of the ship to live in and adjust accordingly. Not that the freelancer gets as big as the constellation. This would create new beef, I think. And stick with the designs. The rsi ships shouldn’t look as good as a 300i for example.

Everyone should be aware, that their rsi ship is not as well designed as others. These ships are more practical and not that nice. Hopefully you stick with your general plab of designing, chris!!! ;)

  81. Avatar of Narktor Narktor says:

“We’ll try to get the longer version out to subscribers this coming week and perhaps share the longer version with everyone on Friday so they can see the kind of in-depth stuff we want to provide for “Development Subscribers””

I’d suggest you “mark” the subscriber-parts in the video, so we know exactly what info we would be missing if this wasnt open to all backers.
Alternatively, you could also post two videos, one backer and one subscriber version, or you make one video with the backerscenes only, and one with the subscriber scenes only.

  82. Avatar of Nomad Nomad says:

The Constellation is coming along nicely. Keep up the good work.

  83. Speaking of Subscriptions… was the final subscription system put in place yet? As I recall, it was said the add-on we could put ontop of our pledge during the funding drive was a “one time only” payment as a placeholder because they did not yet have the subscription system in place.

And I am pretty certain that my current account profile does not have any option to put an actual subscription in place.

  84. Avatar of IIHectorII IIHectorII says:

I think, I have to upgrade, just have to persuade my brother to help me flying this beauty.

  85. Avatar of Roman Wolf Roman Wolf says:

Beautifull ship! But i have a question about the “Circle” in the middle of P52 fighter contruction. Is it a propuslion system or something else? If so i would say its a little outside standing element of design. Looks strange to me. Please post more info about P52. :) For me the 2nd best looking design after RSI Constellation Mk3 so far. Keep up the good work .

  86. Avatar of Hyperion Hyperion says:

So very nice to see more of that detail goin in! Will the constellation also get an onboard entertainment system and mood lightning?

  87. Avatar of emulate emulate says:

floor in the sleeping quarters needs a wood grain finish come on this may be space but lets keep the living qurters at least some what holmely.

  88. Avatar of Ferco Ferco says:

No worries, I’ve liked every single concept so far.

  89. Avatar of Valkeminator Valkeminator says:

This is… So beautiful :O Keep it up everyone!!

  90. Avatar of Acario Acario says:

All of the original concept pictures and these look absolutely amazing. Two caveats: Far too much wasted space in the interior, and no clearly defined cargo hold.

    • In a starship, space is actually not a limiting factor aside from becoming a bigger target. Mass, however, is, as it would slow down the ship. In an ocean ship or plane space is at a premium, because bigger internal space equals either more drag or (on ships) a more unstable structure if you build up -resulting in less speed, more fuel consumption, or both.

In a spaceship, that empty hangar isn’t necessary a problem, as long as you build the ship so that it would at worst work as ablative armor to more critical components. Engines and life support, for example.

Hopefully, they just didn’t show the cargo hold in the pictures above.

      • Avatar of Acario Acario says:

I’m well aware of the concepts you listed in your post, Mr Dead/Alive Hammer, but I think you missed the intent of my post. I intended a connection between having all internal components spread unreasonably far apart and there being no obvious cargo hold.

I’m just making the only complaint I can think of for my future ship in hopes that it becomes truly perfect. Don’t mind me. ^^

  91. Avatar of Blacksun Blacksun says:

WOW! Props to the 3D artist doing the interiors and ship models. It’s obviously top quality work. Keep it up, we love it!!

  92. WOW, just looking beautiful!
Damn, I should hvae ordered a constellation! :-(

  93. Avatar of Kieran Kieran says:

Very nice renders, and thanks for the update on the Freelancer.. hoping it will keep evolving and look like it can actually haul substantial cargo. Can’t wait to see what the other ships will look like. Definitely going to have to consider getting a Constellation if only for that drop dead sexy fighter while I can still get lifetime insurance for it.

The Alpha can’t get here soon enough!
