Unlocked: Goss System & Tuesday Updates

We’ve reached the $3.4 million unlock: the Goss System! At $3.5 million you’ll earn another system and learn more about the games’ docking mechanics. Let’s get there soon!

Goss System

Ownership: UEE
Planets: 3
Planetary Rotation: Goss I 50 SED, Cassel (Goss II) 244 SED, Goss III 309 SED
Import: Food, Energy supplies
Export: Elements.
Crime Status: Low-Med.
Black Market: Kidnapping, Theft.
UEE Strategic Value: Blue

Description: Generally regarded as one of the most visually stunning systems in the Empire, the Goss System is a binary star system situated in the forefront of a massive emission nebula. Permanent bands of turqouise, gold and deep orange paint the sky from any location in the system.

All three of Goss’ planets are inhabitable. The bulk of the system’s economy comes from tourism, but Gossians pride themselves on being self sufficient. Long-haul traders will find few bargains here, as the system produces little worthy of export and gathers its raw materials internally, mining and harvesting resources from the inner planets as needed.

The main destination is the lush, thriving resort world of Cassel (Goss II.) The surface is largely tropical rain forests dotted with stately pleasure domes constructed to support tourists and dozens of launch arcologies that house the descendants of the original Goss settlers. Goss I is a low-atmosphere world with abundant heavy metals. Scattered pockets of well-paid miners are a reasonable market for luxury goods and black market items, although the systems’ strict export policies prevent shipping raw materials out-system.

The Olympus Pool has dark side, too: the same nebula that delights tourists also acts as an effective curtain for several deep space pirate clans. Pirates are generally careful not to interfere in the tourism on Cassel… but the brilliantly colored sky is believed to hide multiple clan operations facilities and supply chain master points.

WARNING: gravity effects of the binary star have rendered portions of the system untenable to starships not carrying Level 7 shields or above. Consult current gravity maps before attempting transit!

Next, at $3.5 million: “Formerly the most distant UEE colony it grew to notoriety as the first contact point with the Vanduul. The attacks became so frequent that the settlers ultimately abandoned it.”

Kellog System

As a bonus, here’s concept art of yesterday’s locked system, Kellog, showing the jungle planet Xis:

Citizen Card

Here’s the Silver Citizen Card, which is included with pledges at the $250 level!

Linking / Upgrading Pledges

We’re confident that most pledges from the backup site are now linked. However, we’ve also heard reports that a small number of pledgers have had issues with their upgrades not appearing correctly. Please contact Sandi if you are seeing either of these issues and she will update our database manually.

Looks great! Silver and white cards seem quite simmilar though. And still can’t wait for the constellation art!

  2. Avatar of Ivan Ivan says:

    Another star system :) Cooool

  3. Avatar of Arrahed Arrahed says:

Waiting for the shipart too.. I would really like to see my BMW ;)

  4. Avatar of Sozoshin Sozoshin says:

this is making me drool. RSI needs to stop teasing us XD

  5. Avatar of Cyco-Dude Cyco-Dude says:

28 hours, 36 minutes to go until the next system, and docking mechanics explained! and possibly constellation artwork!

  6. Avatar of Nilkimas Nilkimas says:

Kidnapping as a commodity, smuggler paradise?

  7. Avatar of Boraxx Boraxx says:

Level 7 shields or above required, now that could become interesting too

    • Avatar of Micco Micco says:

Yeah, but I hate the term “Level 7 shields”…seems immersion-breaking to me. Why not something less ‘gamey’ like “Phase-Inverted Shields or better”?

      • Avatar of Ixos Ixos says:

Why does 7 levels of shielding break your immersion more then 70mm of armor does?

      • Avatar of Engineer Engineer says:

Why? Would it be less immersion-breaking for you if they call it “classes” instead of “level”?
If you look at Freelancer, there they had shield-classes/levels too, and within the clases you had different types of shields, with the same strength (more or less) but different pros/cons against different weapons. Might be same system for SC.

Now I really want to visit this system just for the visuals. :D

  9. Avatar of Shomondir Shomondir says:

Always nice to see more concept art, but as mentioned above, concept art of 1 or 2 ships would be greatly appreciated. Concept art of the i300 or Constellation was mentioned earlier by the developers, and showing it could possibly aid in reaching the 4 million dollar mark better.

  10. Avatar of Kowar Kowar says:

    still waiting for physical add-ons!

  11. Avatar of Greaser Greaser says:

Okay – I’ve just decided not to read the description of the unlocked star systems… why? I just grade up to the Lancer-pledge – a ship for exploration… and so I will explore the system by myself… in two years :-)

  12. Avatar of djsr djsr says:

Looking forward to see more Systems coming! And i hope we get the 4mio!
Would invest some more money if the SC-Novel would finally show up here on the RSI site!

also, i definitely like the bronze card a lot more than the silver card. i wonder if it would look better with the black background (instead of gray) with brushed silver borders and type? i don’t think there’s enough contrast with this one.

    • Avatar of Ken Ken says:

not just you, I think the bronze card looks alot better that the silver one, though, unless this is going to be metal (which would explain why they did not do a black printed background seen on the bronze card)

    • Avatar of CCC_Dober CCC_Dober says:

      @Cyco
The bronze card certainly feels better IMO, but I wonder if that’s just because of contrast alone. If you look close enough you will notice that bronze looks like brushed metal, where silver doesn’t. Also, the circuitry does not look all that convincing on the silver card, same as on the lower pledges. Gold or copper colored etchings would fix that for good, bronze is close by the looks of it.

Now if the silver card would reflect light like a mirror, that would make me forget all of the above immediately. This might work out okay with a proper metal card as it would for gold and higher. Looks and feeling would go hand in hand on here, which I think is not unimportant, given the pledge levels.

Just my humble opinion. I would welcome a metal upgrade option with etchings and a proper finish after the campaign goals are met. It’s not terribly important atm.

    Docking mechanics…cool

  15. No export laws. This is a highly oppressed system it seams. Does this open a revolution aspect to the game? Or is it a Fixed/Static/Persistant oppression.

  16. Avatar of Shepard Shepard says:

They need to give silver card and the ones after that some shaders. That doesn’t really look like a silver card tbh. But maybe we shouldn’t be so picky :P .

  17. Avatar of stef stef says:

The Kellog System, setting that as my desktop background…
    …now.

  18. “untenable to starships not carrying Level 7 shields or above”
well that answers my question from a week or so ago

Note self:pirate sector and profits here,STAY AWAY

  19. Avatar of Korai Korai says:

I am sure specialist printers could use a “metallic ink”
My Uncle is into this kinda thing and uses a printer with about 6+ inks to specially get Good metallic looking effects.

He is the head of a famous London Museums restoration department and has great experience making repairs look like the original article, I will ask him if he has any ideas

  20. great a new system to visit. I hope we get to the 4 Mill soon

  21. Avatar of Net Net says:

    Level 7+ shileds
Can I mount them on Aurora? 300i/Hornet/Freelancer/Constellation? What I did not like about Freelancer was that there were Level 10 shields for Freighter or Light Fighter yet there were no ships to which you could mount them.

  22. Avatar of Narktor Narktor says:

Didnt they say all three planets are inhabitable?`Whats the lush then? And what about the tropical forest there Oo

  23. Avatar of Code Reicon Code Reicon says:

The width of the div surrounding the silver card is way to oversized…
Except that, I approve with the others, it looks astonishing and I can’t wait to get to the Alpha (:

  24. Avatar of Soon™ Soon™ says:

I noticed there’s no gravity info for the planet. I hope they’re not all default to Earth gravity. Even though we don’t have any activities atm on the planet. Would still be nice to have. :P

  25. Avatar of Kharrn Kharrn says:

Dunno if someone already said this:

BIG THX to Sandi for fixing my problem (pledge not connected to account) and the really really friendly and courteus contact!

    Thats all :)
…waiting for the docking mechanics ;)

    Greetings

  26. Avatar of Adamanter Adamanter says:

I hope that thing in orbit is a huge statation or capital ship because if it is a player’s ships the scale is completely wrong compare to the planet.

  27. Just pledged another $5 in hopes to see the 4M milestone and waaaay more solar systems:)
Can’t pledge more before pay day and that’s way after croudfunding ends…
Good luck, guys, let’s try to get there :)

  28. Avatar of BigNick277 BigNick277 says:

I have to admit, I’m really disappointed with the way the silver card looks. It’s kind of bland… And I was expecting brushed metal effect like with the bronze and gold cards at the very least. I expected more for a card that’s limited to a $250 bracket. Especially when the bronze card looks better than the silver card.

  29. Avatar of Mouser Mouser says:

In Xanadu did Kublai Khan a “stately pleasure dome” decree! Nice reference, came to the comments for it but don’t see that many caught on!
