Unbelievable – two systems unlocked in two days! Here’s your first look at the Tyrol System… plus some other good news: two new ships will unlock, at $3.25 million and $3.75 million and you’ll get descriptions of those as well! Plus, more details about the FPS mode at $3.5 million and an update to it at $4 million! So keep those pledges coming.
Tyrol System
Ownership: None
Planets: 7
Planetary Rotation: Tyrol V 393 SED (Standard Earth Day)
Import: None
Export: Mineral, Elements
Black Market: Sentient Trafficking, Narcotics, Mercenaries, You name it.
UEE Strategic Value: Grey
Description: Located near the Banu Protectorate, Tyrol is a powder keg. The star has entered the red giant phase of its evolution and scientists are predicting that it will go supernova soon. Therefore, the UEE has designated the system as a scientific/research zone, allowing the scientific community to set up to record the effects of a supernova up close.
This also means that there is no real law presence in the system. If you can avoid the scientific research stations, you can find all sorts of disposable settlements on the planets. Most of them are used for smuggling operations while some are simply squatter camps, looking for free real estate before the system explodes.
Tyrol V currently hosts the most organized settlement, known as Haven. The planet surface is burned out from the star’s initial evolution to the red giant phase and most humanoids require some kind of thermal shielding in their clothes in order to avoid blindness and sunburn.
Haven is built into the rock of a vast canyon in an effort to keep the temperature down. What started as a small network of tunnels expanded as more fugitives, criminals, expatriates, and outlaws decided to roll the dice and hide in a dying system.
Jump-point connections to Charon System (UEE) and Xi’An Territory.
Next up, at $3.3 million: “Home of the infamous QuarterDeck PrisonWorld. Don’t mess with the Cops around here.”

nice they seem to be on the ball with releasing new planets when we hit goals we might just make 4 million yet
So purdy
First! AWESOME update!
sorry, too slow…
Yeah, I know but still. Look at the date and time ;P.
Lol! Sad try! Ninja’d TWICE!!
Oh man I love those frequent updates! Keep them coming!
Wow awesome stuff. Nice it was ready as soon as 3.2mil was hit. Very encouraging.
Nice!
Epic
Hmm… It is near Banu territory yet has a direct jump to Xi’an territory, curious.
Am I right in remembering they are on opposite sides of the Empire?
Freelancer had some jump points that took you pretty far.
lots of stuff comming. cant wait to get to 3.3mil. keep those pledges going.
“two new ships will unlock, at $3.25 million and $3.75″ so good can’t wait to see that 4 million goal knocked over.
Am enjoying these quick little System updates
Kinda reminds me of the Butchers bay planet from Chronicles of Riddick
Just what I was thinking. We all take inspiration wherever it is found.
I would like to see some of the other goals we voted for put up though. But I hope this won’t go nova during our gameplay timeline, would make it a pain in the ass to navigate around it. or it could be a cool place to check out, now that there isn’t a star, but plenty of resources, bandits could take over and it become a shady corp’s playground. maybe the hub of the black market
Cool Prison World….now that will be interesting… Maybe we will have law and order in the System…. Like a Real Jail System?
I really hope Chris is not biting off more than he can chew. I really love all this but the problems with the site and stuff are starting to make me a bit nervous….
Don’t they want a little to much over at cloud imperium games?
I think these guys are all seasoned developers with plenty of experience under their belts…I for one would like to see them push themselves rather than hold back.
Site problems aren’t exactly worrying me, however the list of features sure is HUGE.
if you consider the depth of play immersion in star-lancer and the vastness of diversity that was in freelancer and then also the free playability that was wing commander, then consider the years that have past in between then and now, the fact that the pc has almost reach a plateau in its development and that C.R. has been at the forefront of these games then i think you can remain quite calm in regard to the end result of the game…. web site issue are negligible at this point
and its always been about timing
You sound like one of my game dev fans from a few years ago. So negative, but he tried like hell to put a positive spin on it
Is the title picture supposed to be the actual system?
Don’t think so.
No way in hell that’s a Red giant about to blow.
Nah, if you look closely at the image (http://www.robertsspaceindustries.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/tyrolsystem-740×300.png) you’ll see it’s a screenshot from the prototype level: it has the carrier in the bottom right.
Maybe they just need to hop the next flight out to a real red giant and take some pictures, to make sure they get it exactly right for the final production…….
Going to be a weapons testing system.
Tirol ftw ^^
Yes, is nice to have an own system at Star Citizen
So many tyrolians (is that even a word?)
Now we just need a Styria system.
Indeed, i’d also vote for a system called Styria
100k a day. Keep it up and I know we can make 4 mil!
I like the updates. The details of a game, that have to developed at a point close to the alpha tests ia real amazing. Keep going that way.
4 million is a nice goal. I like to see the 5 million goal, becaus of the tablet (smartphone?) app , addiontial missions in Squadron 42 and the return of an actor of the Wing Commander cast.
Sorry to be that guy, but FYI red giant stars don’t go supernova.
A star with a mass 8 times that of the sun once they use up all the hydrogen in their core they go through phases where they burn successively larger elements, oscillating between red and blue super giants until they reach iron, which you can’t gain energy from by fusion. It’s at this point that the energy from fusion, which has been opposing the gravitational pull of the core on the outer layers, stops. The outer layers fall inwards, bounce off the very dense core and explode as a supernova. Depending a bit on the evolution you can end up with either a neutron star or a black hole at the centre.
“Yeah, well, that’s just, like, your opinion, maaaan.”
even more interesting… but love your comment… lol!
I was worried about this too, so I looked it up. According to this pic from NASA red giants can go supernova: http://www.nasa.gov/images/content/65858main_Starchild_Life_Cycle.jpg
I think the star must have a minimum mass of 8 times our sun though and I believe such a red giant is called a red supergiant.
You are correct in that it has to be a red supergiant to go supernova. However, I’m afraid that picture is over simplified to the point of being incorrect. Stars with masses less than 8 times the mass of our sun become red giant stars and lead a very different life to those that become supergiants. See, for example, http://essayweb.net/astronomy/images/Stellar_Evolution_large.jpg . Trust me, I’m an astrophysicist
Now, you can get a red giant to go supernova, but this requires adding a significant amount of mass to it from a close binary companion, which makes having planets in stable orbits more difficult.
As a side note, if RSI would like an astronomy consultant my door is always open
Yes, the picture you provide is more accurate.
So the way I see it they only have to rename the star of the Tyrol system to a red supergiant instead of a red giant and the science behind the story is correct, right?
Sounds different to the old Scottish song “Green Hills of Tyrol”
i would like to propose that the updated stretch goals are kept in sync across the different channels(several places here, as well as on kickstarter).
Not just for the plain professionalism of it, but simply because the stretch goals(fps mode, more content) detailed here seem so much more appealing to me than comparatively simple visual gimmicks(cockpit decorations at 3500000).
I am fairly certain i am not the only one who thinks that the game industry in general has misunderstood the simple logic that immersion stemming from “bells and whistles” is a mere fraction of the immersion created by the fundamentals such as a great storyline(complete with good pacing throughout), well balanced game dynamics with enough content to truly experience their nuances and scarcity of bugs.
The “bobble heads” stretch goal, at that priority in the overall raising campaign, leaves a weird aftertaste.
Also, the “Stretch Goals” Button(JS-based) on the “Home” Tab seems broken on Chrome & Firefox nightlies
So, two more ships comming in a few hours then
Great stuff.. this is the game I’ve been waiting for for the last couple of years.
THIRTY-SIXTH!
I like these ‘small’ updates, can not wait for the next
I’m really loving this! And to “celebrate” the second unlocked system, I’ve started generating a system map showing known connections. You can find the current version behind the “known systems and connections” PNG link on http://dev.carbon-project.org/misc/starcitizen.html. If I missed some systems/connections (very likely), please drop me a note and I’ll update the graph.
The colours in the graph indicate (known) ownership of the respective system, green represents unknown ownership and yellow no ownership.
I was thinking of doing that. Looks like you beat me to it.
Well there is still lots of room for an artistic version.
But I fully expect(ed), that somebody else did this already. I just thought I’d add it to my pledge total page as an additional piece of information. And it is certainly nothing fancy, just a few lines of text and a dot run.
Just a quick update: I’ve added some systems from the stories and released the dot file itself (link on the page).
If I missed a system or connection, please let me know.
Sentient Trafficking?
check out the adventures of kid crimson on the commlink and how there might be a conspiracy of slave trade protected by the Advocacy agency….
Another system that has the black market…?
There is *A* black market… it’s a generic term for the trade of illicit goods.. I doubt there will be a base, let alone a planet, without it. Just like in reality.
Awesome update!
Great stuff!
Yay, that sounds like a place someone could call home!
And 2 new ships announced, that’s good to hear. What do you guys reckon they’ll be?
(I wish that could mean interceptor and industrial/mining ships are in the pipe.)
Named after Deck Chief Tyrol on BSG perhaps? great name anyway!
So glad I’m not the only one who hoped this was the case! BSG FTW!
Guys lets boost up this bad boy to 4 mil!!!
Sounds like a system ‘Haven’ for all kind of criminals and smugglers, who are sorta criminals too. Very exciting, hope it can all be pulled off in the end and this is not only the ‘possible’ projection of potential goals. Either way I am excited to see how the game will be growing over these next 12-14 months and we will get access to more and more information about it.
