Cascom is an inhabited planet in the Castra system, United Empire of Earth (UEE). It was originally terraformed as a military-only planet in the late 2500s, and operated as a UEE naval base until 2789, when it was opened for civilian settlement. Cascom remained lightly populated until the 2830s, when a successful promotional campaign offering incentives attracted a new influx of immigrants. Its capital, Sherman, is home to many retirees brought there by the city's views and low-priced real estate.
